My name is Sonia.
I studied at the School of Arts and Crafts No. 3 in Madrid, where I discovered that jewelry was the creative language that suited me best.
Kimya was born shortly after my daughter was born, as a way of balancing my creative world with motherhood. Selling online made that possible. The name Kimya comes from the Arabic word al-kīmiya (alchemy), which, among other meanings, represents transformation. I was drawn to that idea: transforming raw materials into small objects created with intention.
This journey has been a privilege. Being able to make a living doing what I love, while connecting with so many women from around the world, and I truly mean that, is something I could never have imagined.
I live by the Mediterranean, which is a constant source of inspiration. Its light and colours fill me with ideas. I’m a lifelong learner, always curious to discover something new, even when it has nothing to do with jewellery. I believe every discipline can offer a different way of seeing the world.
My approach to jewelry
My work is shaped by the stage of life I’m in and by the need to express it through jewellery.
I’m constantly changing and evolving, or at least that’s how I like to see myself. Every experience finds its way, in one form or another, into the pieces I create. I let myself be guided by emotions, my senses, and the world around me. I need that sense of harmony in order to create.
At the same time, I always keep the female form in mind. A well designed piece of jewellery should have a dialogue with the body and connect with emotion. It should enhance your natural beauty, reflect your personality, and express who you are.
I design and make each piece in my workshop, using mainly traditional jewellery techniques and handcrafted finishes. Whenever a design calls for it, I also incorporate technology as part of the creative process.
I’m drawn to imperfections that tell a story and to the textures left behind by the tools. Every mark speaks of the passion of the person who created it. Contemporary author jewellery allows me to create without filters, balancing the physical and the emotional, while paying close attention to every detail so that each piece retains its beauty and quality over time.
There’s something special about handmade objects. They have a different kind of presence, you can sense the human touch. In the end, they remind us of what it means to be human.
A piece of jewellery has no real meaning until someone wears it. That’s when it comes to life, when it finds its place. It will be different for every person, and each one will give it a meaning of its own.
That connection is the most beautiful part of what I do. Over the years, I’ve felt it through your messages, your reviews, and the photos you send me, where I finally get to put a face to your name. Your words inspire me and give me the motivation to keep creating every day. Without you, none of this would have any meaning.
